Mobile phone stealing gang from AP busted in Chennai

Two women and a man were caught by a special team of police for carrying out a series of mobile phone robberies in Chennai.  The trio from Andhra Pradesh had the modus operandi of stealing a number of phones and leaving the city only to return after sometime to carrying out more thefts. With a number of cases being reported at T Nagar, Teynampet and other places, Assistant Commissioner of Teynampet formed a special team of police comprising of Sub Inspector Venkatesh, Gurumurthy, Ponvel and Senthilkumar.

The police said few days ago a man lodged a complaint that his iPhone was stolen near Panagal Park. Police traced the phone signal to a lodge in Thousand Lights. After an investigation, police arrested Angammal (45), Gowri (29) and Sathish (22). The trio from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh came to the city on a regular basis. On the pretext of shopping they visit the busy shopping hubs in the city and steal mobile phones. When they had stolen enough they go back to their native. The police are conducting further inquires into the case.

Meanwhile, sleuths of Income-Tax (IT) carried out searches at a jewellery store and a few textile shops in Parry Corner on Friday. Sources said that the officials have termed it as a ‘survey’ and not as a raid. Friday evening, a team of 40 persons were part of the operation and it concluded by night.
